How to Get There (The Latest Route)
Since the old underpass is closed, you will now walk through the beautiful new Umekita Park (Grand Green Osaka) area. Here is exactly how to get there from the train station.
Step 1: Head to the North Side of JR Osaka Station
- Find the “Central North Gate” (中央北口) of JR Osaka Station.
- You will see the Grand Front Osaka department store directly in front of you.
Step 2: Enter the “Umekita” Area
- Head towards the open space between the Grand Front Osaka buildings.
- You will see the new green park area called Grand Green Osaka (Umekita Park).
Step 3: Walk Through the Park
- Follow the wide pedestrian walkway through the park.
- Keep the Umeda Sky Building (the two connected silver towers) in your sight as you walk. It’s hard to miss!
The area is still under development, but the new ground-level walkways are much brighter and more pleasant than the old tunnel!
Step 4: Cross the Final Intersection
- Once you pass through the park, you will reach a final street intersection.
- Cross the crosswalk, and you are at the base of the Umeda Sky Building.
Step 5: How to Enter the Observatory
- This is where many people get confused!
- Go to the East Tower (Tower East).
- Take the shuttle elevator directly to the 39th floor. This is where the ticket counter and the entrance to the “Floating Garden” are located.
Highlights: What to See
The Circular Escalator: Experience the “floating” feeling as you ride the glass-walled escalator 173 meters above ground.

The Sky Walk: Unlike many observatories, you can actually go outside and feel the wind on the rooftop.
The Night View: Ranked among the top 100 night views in Japan.
